The simple answer to this is no. The bluetooth on an iphone is simply to connect to a headset via bluetooth. It's not possible to connect to another phone via iphones bluetooth.

One of the let downs of the iphone i suppose, its odd though every smart phone (Blackberry, Palm Pre, iphone etc) always lacks a basic.

Thanks irobert
Yes it's a real pain that you cannot connect to another iPhone. I suppose it is due to the
paranoid vision that Apple have of users exchanging music. Hey ho !

Re: Bluetooth connection - hands free?

is possible to pair the 3g iphone with a car's handsfree kit. i have VW Tuoreg and the handsfree system is top notch, and with a compatible phone, you can access the phone book and read incoming sms on the dashboard.

if not compatible then 3g on ebay, and back to Nokia.

I'm having problems pairing my phone with the voice comms bluetooth set up in my car.
I got my iphone on Thursday and have been trying ever since to pair it in my Ford KA, The manual says 'a personal pin will appear on the radio display. Enter this Pin in your mobile phone. If no Pin appears on the radio display, enter 0000 in your mobile phone and then the pin that appears on the radio display.'
Herein lies my problem: no pin appears on the radio display and when I enter 0000, it tells me it's an invalid code and won't allow me to go any further. I've tried various pin numbers that I might have used when I got the car and paired my old phone but none of them work.
I bought the car used in September from a dealer, should I go back there or contact Ford direct to see if they can offer any suggestions? Unless someone here has anything really helpful that would work???
Thanks very much
Erica

You may want to check and see if there are no other phones stored in the car bluetooth memory. There are a limit to how many can be stored so you may need to delete the others first.

Hi,
I finally managed to resolve this problem this morning. I put a sim card in my old phone, which I'd bought as PAYG and had paired with the voice comms in the car. I requested settings via the voice comms, said 'pair' and a code came up on the display. I opened up search on the bluetooth function on my iphone, entered the code when asked and it worked! To think I spent 3 days trying to do this and a flash of inspiration (or sheer good luck!) and it was resolved in about 2 minutes...
Many thanks for your response, much appreciated.
