Oh, I was not recommending that as you hopefully are still in the return period for your phone if it is indeed faulty. Turning off 3G is handy for some folks but if you are not getting the signal you should be take it to Apple and get them to check it.
An update could be months away or never as Apple are very good at ignoring customer requests. Make a Genius appointment with Apple and forget about Tmobile as they will just send it to Apple anyway. If it is faulty Apple will replace it on the spot.
