Got a we problem .. bought an iphone off ebay, to find out its an american one and only an american sim card fits in it.. Any one no if theres any way I can use an english sim in it (there diff sizes english one wont fit in). Or am I buggered to not be able to use it as a phone ? (cost about £3 a minute on an american network lol). Cheapest way possible be good as im selling it on, so no point paying high money for it.

i would sell it on to the american market, either on craigs list or the us ebay. and then the money you get put towards an iphone bought in the uk.

I also thought iphone sim cards are the same size whether it san american one or uk bought one, they just slide in the top.

I had an iphone bought from ebay was used on the AT&T network but was able to put an O2 sim in it and voda sim in it, so not sure why you say they are different sizes.

To be honest just sell it on to the us market though.

I am very confused by the question. There is no difference in the size of SIM cards anywhere in the world (the iPad will have the new MicroSIM but the iPhone uses a normal SIM).An English SIM will certainly fit in an American iPhone. It won't work unless you unlock but to say that it's a different size is just plane wrong.

I'm just wondering if you are trying to fit a sim into a slot at the top without using the tray? Perhaps this is why you believe the card would be bigger?

That must be it. I've used my iPhone 3GS in at least five countries and I've never had any problem with SIM cards not fitting in properly. Pull out the SIM tray, put it in there and place it back in facing the right way up.

The only other possibility is that you got sold the phone without the SIM tray at all. It's a second hand phone, right? If you've got one without a SIM tray it's probably worth contacting the person you bought it from or an Apple store for a replacement one.
